Applied Mathematics

Applied mathematician who undertake studies into continuum mechanics apply their skills to the development of mathematical tools to describe and characterise mechanical properties of materials that are typically used in aircraft, such as aluminium, titanium, and nickel superalloys. They also become involved in the development of algorithms and software tools for designing and optimizing aircraft structures, for instance software to describe air flow, or materials flow in castings of turbine blades, and machining, forming and milling of titanium and light alloys.
