TECHNICAL AEROSPACE AND UNMANNED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE
The Technical Aerospace and Unmanned Systems Conference, TAUSC, is an international, in-depth technical discussion forum on unmanned systems for aerospace, land and maritime (surface and underwater) application. The event is strictly focused on technical subjects and is kept free of dedicated marketing.
It offers attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas and information on requirements, technologies and solutions with regard to all kinds of unmanned systems. The TAUSC is pre-eminently useful to cetain categories of professionals, such as technology managers and acquisition experts (i.e. developers and users), research scientists and development engineers, and representatives from organisations that fund research and development.
The TAUSC grew from a number of workshops on maritime surveillance presented by Stellenbosch University during 2004 and 2005. The conference is a natural extension of the original workshops with even more focus on technical depth and with an extended scope. It is sponsored by the University, Armscor, the National Aeronautical Centre of Excellence (an extension of the Department of Trade and Industry), and the Association of Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industries (AMD).
The presenters at the 2008 event will as always be carefully selected professionals who wil provide insight into the latest advances in the fields of operations and applications, sensor systems, guidance/control/simulation, communication systems, structures/aerodynamics/aeroelasticity, vehicle development, propulsion systems, and systems/software safety. AMD launches the 10th edition of the South African Defence Industries Directory (SADID)
Under the auspices of AMD, the 10th edition of the South African Defence Industry Directory (SADID) was compiled and produced in time to be launched internationally at the Defence Services and Equipment International (DSEi) 2007 exhibition on the 11th of September in London.
Addressing an audience comprising of members of the international defence media, captains of industry, representatives of the DOD and the dti, as well as of the Office of the High Commission in London, Simphiwe Hamilton (Executive Director of AMD) referred to the reputable status which the SA defence technologies, products and equipment enjoy in the international marketplace. Over the past few years the SA defence-related industry has risen to the challenges of not only developing such indigenous technologies. A number of leading South African defence companies have joined hands by exhibiting their indigenously developed products with their international business partners at DSEi 2007.
This 10th edition of SADID reflects a broad spectrum of defence companies in South Africa and is an excellent testimonial of the varied technologies, products and systems that the SADRI has to offer the international defence community and potential business partners. This popular directory remains an excellent reference tool to identify products and systems which are produced by the SADRI as it also provides other relevant information which facilitates direct contact with these individual companies.
This 10th edition is available in both hard copy and CD format and the content is easily accessed via its website www.sadid.co.za
Specific reference was also made to the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition which will take place from 17-21 September 2008 at the Air Force Base, Ysterplaat, in Cape Town. This is a continuation of the very successful AAD series and is set to become an even bigger success. The website www.aadexpo.co.za provides useful information to potential exhibitors and trade visitors alike. A dedicated AAD exhibition team is planning this event and interested parties are invited to contact them for additional information.
DSEi 2007 also provided the ideal forum to highlight the involvement and contribution of the Department of Trade and Industry in the recent launch of the South African Aerospace Initiatives which comprise of three cardinal elements:
- Aerospace Industry Support Initiative
- Centurion Aerospace Village
- National Aerospace Centre of Excellence
The dti is playing a vital role in promoting these initiatives and the industry will work hard towards achieving the objectives as set out by Government.
By attending DSEi, AMD gained valuable experience by interacting with international role players and exhibitors representing international prime, second tier suppliers and subcontractors. Various meetings and interviews took place and the information gained will be applied to enhance the stature of the broader South African defence industry.
