AMD – THE PROUD ASSOCIATION FOR AEROSPACE, MARITIME AND DEFENCE INDUSTRIES OF SOUTH AFRICA

AMD is a non-profit organisation focused primarily on representation of the industry in the South African, as well as global market place. Its focus is to ensure the industry is recognised as a sustainable and responsible industry.


Its current member companies supply a wide range of products and services to South Africa's Department of Defence and Military Veterans (DOD), the security sector and the export market. Providing high-tech solutions at competitive prices makes these products sought after in the export market, which in turn leads to local skills development, job creation and retention.

The United States Department of Defence will be exhibiting in the Integrated Land Defence Pavilion @ Singapore Airshow 2008
Singapore Airshow is one of the top three aviation, aerospace and defence exhibition in the world, focusing on multi-billion global business opportunities with special emphasis in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions. The exhibition attracts corporate budget participation with high-quality visitors and exhibitors, including more than 150 official delegations from 45 countries.

UK MoD Website, 25 Jul 07: Defence budget settlement announced
The Government today signalled its intention to purchase two new aircraft carriers, offering unprecedented capabilities for the UK's Armed Forces, after the MoD agreed its budget for the next three years from April 2008. Today's settlement of the Comprehensive Spending Review for defence gives the department an annual budget of £34 billion in 2008/9, £35.3 billion in 2009/10 and £36.9 billion in 2010/11.

The Times, 26 Jul 07: BAE and VT announce merger as MoD
BAE Systems and VT Group confirmed the long-awaited merger of their shipbuilding assets yesterday following the Government’s decision to provide the Royal Navy with two new aircraft carriers. The £1 billion company will effectively become the UK’s last shipbuilder as famous names such as Harland & Wolff, Swan Hunter and Scott Lith-gow have closed or dropped out of the business.
