Colab Conference Centre, Menlyn Maine - 12 May 2025
The launch of the Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industries Association of South Africa’s (AMD) renewed Vision and Mission was more than a ceremonial event—it was a bold declaration of purpose, relevance, and forward-thinking strategy. Held at the Colab Conference Centre in Menlyn Maine, the event brought together stakeholders, partners, and leaders in the defence sector for an afternoon of reflection, reconnection, and renewal. With an emphasis on interactive engagement and inspiration, the programme marked a strategic shift in AMD’s commitment to growth and inclusivity in a rapidly evolving global defence landscape.
Mr. Sandile Ndlovu, Executive Director of AMD, delivered the keynote address, officially unveiling the Association’s updated Vision and Mission. He highlighted the strategic insights and sector dynamics that guided the repositioning, asserting AMD’s role as a transformative catalyst in the industry. A significant highlight of the event was the launch of the AMD Special Edition of Defence Collaboration Magazine, which not only profiles the diversity and strength within the industry but also showcases the creativity of the next generation through a unique CSI initiative. Grade 7 learners from Entshonalanga Primary School reimagined industry adverts through vibrant, hand-drawn art, linking defence innovation to STREAM education.
The event was made even more impactful by the participation of Lt General (Ret) Zimpande Msimang, Chairperson of AMD, who delivered an impassioned keynote on the future of South Africa’s defence industry. His remarks echoed the need for bold leadership, innovation and inclusive transformation, calling on all stakeholders to embrace the future with unity of purpose. He reflected on AMD’s journey and challenged the industry to lead with vision, conscience and courage.
The interactive nature of the day allowed guests to engage more deeply with AMD’s new direction. Activities like “Pin Your Card” and “Draw Your Logo” symbolised collaboration, identity, and community within the defence sector. As the event transitioned into a networking session over light refreshments, the space buzzed with dialogue, excitement, and a shared sense of responsibility. The art gallery installation served as a vivid reminder that while AMD charts the future of defence, it also plays a pivotal role in inspiring the minds that will one day shape it. The launch was a true convergence of purpose, creativity and collaboration—a fitting beginning for the road ahead.
