The AMD Export Council is a relatively new addition to the South African Defence Landscape. Established in 2015, jointly by the Department of Trade and Industry and AMD, for the express purpose of facilitating exports for the Defence and Related Industries Sector. The Export Council is mandated by its members and the dti to promote and champion the collective interests of the sector by exploring new markets for the South African Defence Industry, growing the value and volume of sector exports and lastly by transforming and diversifying the export base thereby contributing to the transformational imperatives of South Africa.

The Export Council represents members that have capabilities that cuts across the entire Defence spectrum. The AMD Export Council members have various capabilities that include, but not limited to the following:
